Advice for life: need someone to talk to?Whether you’re a school or university student, sometimes personal worries can become overwhelming. Luckily, there is free, confidential advice available for nearly any problem that comes up.

As well as dealing with your studies and deciding what you want to do with your life, there can be lots of personal issues and stresses that can prevent you from achieving your best. It’s important to remember that however big it may seem to you, lots of other people will have been through the same ordeal and there is always someone you can turn to for help. Below is a list of organisations set up to give advice and support to young people with all sorts of problems or questions.

Sexual health

Brook Advisory Centres

The Brook centres provide free confidential sex advice and contraception for young people up to 25. Free, confidential helpline: 0800 0185 023
(Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm, recorded information outside these hours.) 020 7713 9000 for your nearest clinic for young people.

Sexwise helpline

Call 0800 282930 (Textphone for people with hearing impairments: 0800 328 1651).
This freephone number is open from 7am - midnight giving the chance to talk to an adviser about sex and personal relationships.

Produced by Marie Stopes International the site aims to provide non-judgemental sexual health information to 11-15 year olds, ranging from handling peer pressure to understanding sexually transmitted diseases. Specific educational resources include an interactive quiz, and a help and advice page.

Advice on drugs

FRANK

FRANK provides free, confidential drugs information and advice 24 hours a day to anyone that needs it. The key purpose is to ensure that young people understand the risks and dangers of drugs and know where to go for advice and help. It also provides parents with the confidence and knowledge to talk to their children about drugs. 0800 776 600
